Four butterfly species have become extinct over the last 150 years. Now, the monarch butterfly could be headed down that same road.
In Focus anchor, Renee Eng, traveled to Butterfly Farms in Encinitas and spoke to CEO Pat Flanagan about the problem.
A large part of the problem is the use of pesticides which kill milkweed. UCLA Associate Adjunct Professor Travis Longcore explains that milkweed is essential for the monarch’s survival as it is the only thing butterfly larvae eat.
