A proposal today by Congressman Joe Morelle (D, NY-25) to honor his predecessor, the late Louise Slaughter.
Morelle joined with friends and family of Slaughter Friday morning to announce he was introducing legislation to rename a Fairport Post Office in honor of Congresswoman slaughter and her husband, Joe.
The facility that would be renamed is a carrier annex on Ayrault Road near Route 250. The facility will be renovated over the next year to become a full, retail post office.
It's located less than a mile from the property the Slaughters called home for nearly six decades.
"Tthey were very fortunate to have moved to Fairport in 1959," said Robin Slaughter Minerva, Louise's daughter. "And the house where I grew up, they bought it just before I was born. They were both living in that same house when they died and it's right down the street, it's perfect. And thank you, I think having it named after both my mother and father is fantastic, and on behalf of my family, thank you. Thank you Joe."
Louise Slaughter died last March after serving in Congress for thirty years.
