Mark Gjonaj chairs the Small Business Committee on New York’s City Council, and he is a tireless fighter for the rights of small business owners. He joins Cheryl to talk about Small Business Saturday and why it matters to local shop owners. While it is only one day in the year, if owners take advantage of the promotional help offered to them, they can build a customer base that will last for years. Cory Schifter is one of those shop owners, with a second-generation jewelry store on Staten Island. Every year, he takes part in Small Business Saturday, offering special offers, and decorating his store. He believes it pays off, seeing it as a way to not only build his base, but to give back to customers who’ve been coming to his shop for years.
