There are more African Americans in Congress (55) than ever before. In New York State, both the State Senate and Assembly are led by African American representatives. The Democratic response to the SOTU was delivered by a Black woman, who doesn’t even hold an elected office, but is seen as a big part of the political future. And there is a real discussion about whether two white men can make up the next presidential ticket. The question is: will changing politics as usual change the landscape when it comes to racism, voter suppression and justice?
