With a federal government that is less than environmentally friendly and outright denies man’s contribution to climate change (if not climate change itself), the burden now falls to individual state and local governments to pick up the slack, so to speak. So how is New York State doing?  We put that question to Queens Assemblywoman Nily Rozic and President of the League of Conservation Voters, Julie Tighe. As regulations designed to protect our air and water and to encourage clean energy disappear, how much power does the state have to regulate industries if the federal government fails to do so? In a state that has been battered by powerful storms, New Yorkers know that climate change is real. Governor Cuomo says he is “leading on climate change and protecting our environment.” We look at New York’s stated goals, and ask if they are green dreams, or can they be accomplished. And what about the “Green New Deal”? Are the lofty goals expressed in it doable, or too costly to consider?
