Here we’ll look at the not-so-great news: rights, particularly Transgender rights, are being rolled back at the federal level, seemingly every day. From the military ban to the constant battle over bathrooms, the Transgender community is seeing its rights slipping away. And the fear of losing those rights is being felt by the whole LGBTQ community. While New York City and New York State have been at the forefront of creating legislation to protect LGBTQ rights, there is only so much they can do. Our guests will talk about what individual cities and states can do to create safe spaces for all their citizens in the face of federal opposition. Senator Hoylman and Councilman Dromm will speak about their experiences as openly gay men in politics. Senator Hoylman is the only openly gay man in the State Senate. And all three will talk about the lessons learned from Stonewall, and the state of the LGBTQ rights movement today.
