More than 100, state-funded agencies are at risk of surging pension costs, as pension contributions from quasi-governmental agencies like health departments, domestic violence shelters, and regional universities sit at just under 50%.

Many of those agencies will soon will have to contribute more than 80%, as new rates for pension obligations take effect on July 1st.

Eastern Kentucky University’s Board of Regents recently approved an operating budget of over $350 million dollars for the 2019-2020, school year,  but that budget is depending on the outcome of pending pension litigation in Frankfort.
