While the carnival is all about celebrating the traditions and contributions of the Caribbean community, this is still an immigrant community with all the issues that come along with it. We’ll talk to both guests about those issues, like affordable housing, health care poverty. 13% of Caribbean immigrants live in poverty, which is higher than average. And trying to navigate a federal system that has become unfriendly to immigrant populations has not made life easier. They’ll also celebrate the contributions made to Brooklyn and New York City by Caribbean immigrants, who have been part of the city since the late 19th century.
