56% of the population of The Bronx is Hispanic, and that number is growing at a rapid rate. So, Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. knows all too well the issues facing that community. In Brooklyn the numbers are a little different: around 20% of those living in Brooklyn are Hispanic, and it is the only borough where the Hispanic population has actually dropped. In a way, the answer is the same: housing. More than $19 billion has gone into development in The Bronx, mostly for residential builds. We talk to the Borough President about his plan to increase housing without chasing away low-income or immigrant residents. Assemblywoman Davila talks about the changes gentrification have brought to Brooklyn, and what the city and state can do to keep housing affordable, and keep low income and immigrant families in place.
