Since 2010, 25 states have changed laws, making it harder, not easier, to vote. While New York has not seen the significant “hard” voter suppression that exist in other parts of the country, there has been what some call “soft suppression,” whereby, simply because of polling hours or the inability to get time off work, people just can’t get to the polls. Our guests will talk about how changes in the state’s voting laws could finally end that “soft suppression,” and about what else needs to be done to make voting more accessible. As the Chair of the Election Committee, State Senator Myrie has been fighting for even more significant changes, like adjusting the campaign finance laws and keeping big donor cash out of our election system. But how do you do that when campaigns are so costly?
