The new, or novel, Coronavirus has killed more than 500 people worldwide. Nearly 30,000 more have been diagnosed with the virus. It’s origins trace back to the city of Wuhan in China, a city with 11 million residents, now locked down, unable to get out. Here in New York City, with the largest Chinese population outside of China, it is a worrying time. They have loved ones who are trapped in-country (where more than 60 million are now on lockdown). With at least five cases under investigation in New York City, they are even more concerned as they begin to see a backlash from people worried that all Chinese and, by extension, all Asians, may carry the virus. Queens State Senator John Liu joins us to talk about what he is hearing from his constituents in North East Queens, what advice he has for those looking for guidance, and what the government can do to stop racist attacks against New York’s Asian communities.
