Texans have seen the impact coronavirus is having across the Lone Star State.
From cancellations of huge events to schools and institutions of higher learning, Texans are taking precautions to prevent a potential spread. Recently, Austin officials canceled SXSW after many high profile companies pulled out of the event in the weeks leading up. It was the first time the festival had been canceled in its 34-year history, costing the city roughly $350 million in revenue.
The company also let go of a third of its full-time staff shortly after canceling. Also, oil and gas prices have fallen sharply. Economists say it's still too soon to tell how the ripple effects will hurt the state, if concerns persist, the impacts could be devastating. So far, a handful of Texas colleges and universities have either moved classes online or extended spring break to create distancing measures. With more Texans becoming concerned about how the virus will affect their everyday life, In Focus Texas host, Dr. Nicole Cross sat down with Gov. Abbott to find out how Texas is navigating the economic uncertainty and what measures the state is considering to contain the virus.
