Donovan Richards has been a leader in the fight for criminal justice reform. He joins In Focus to tackle that part of the New York Urban League report, which showed African Americans are far more liable to be stopped and frisked, detained by police and incarcerated.

Richards talks about the tragedies these numbers are to so many families, but he also talks about solving what's at the core of the criminal justice issue: food insecurity, joblessness, disparities in the education system and poverty.

He'll also talk about the importance of, not defunding, but reforming how New York City's communities of color are policed, spending more on things like mental health professionals who can become the first responders when it's appropriate. He also talks about what his focus will be when he takes over as Queens' first Black Borough President.
