Way back in early February, Dr. Syra Madad appeared on In Focus.  It was a time when coronavirus was a new and unfamiliar phrase, an illness being talked about as a China problem, not a U.S. problem, which some said would just "disappear".  Dr. Madad, who is also Senior Director of the Special Pathogens Program at New York City Health + Hospitals and a world-renowned pandemics expert, threw cold water all over that theory, warning that the virus was here, was spreading, and it wouldn't come just from China.  She joins us with an update on the coming surge, which she agrees will be worse than anything we've seen so far.  And she offers a primer on the new COVID-19 vaccine, explaining how it was developed so quickly, why that didn't affect its safety and why everyone should take it.  But she also tells us why it isn't an instant fix and we still need to wear masks and keep our distance, long after we get our vaccine jabs.
