Congressman Gregory Meeks was in the Capitol, voting to certify Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the next President and Vice President of the United States when a violent mob breached the building and headed for the House floor.
He joined In Focus with his story of what happened that day. Evacuated to his office across the street, he could only watch in horror as rioters stormed the historic building, the seat of American democracy.
But he also talked about what, he believes, must happen next: investigations into just what went so wrong, allowing the armed and angry throng to make their way into what should be one of the most secure sites in the country, what punishment he thinks should befall those who participated in, planned and incited the riots and why he will fight for a second impeachment of Donald Trump, one that would end his right to run again for federal office and strip him of the privileges of anyone who formerly held the highest office in the land.
