Yuh-Line Niou is the only Asian-American woman in the New York State legislature.

She represents a heavily Asian district in Lower Manhattan, one that has been devastated by COVID-19, in terms of health and economics.

Lunar New Year has been described as the "Black Friday" of the Asian-American community. But for the second year in a row, restaurants and small businesses in her district remain empty.

Niou talked about the bills she's introduced in the Assembly designed to help these small businesses recover, including all-important rent-relief legislation.

Niou says her district is also shamefully underserved when it comes to vaccinations.

Only 11% of Asian Americans in New York City have been vaccinated, versus 48% of white New Yorkers. She discussed the reasons why, like a lack of facilities, not nearly enough doses, and a lack of information caused in part by language issues.

She also addressed another bill she's put forward that would require all information, including appointment websites, to be provided in several Asian languages.
