KENTUCKY — Kentucky State Sen. Reggie Thomas (D-Lexington) is only one of two African-Americans serving in the 38-member Kentucky State Senate.

During this wide-ranging interview, Thomas comments on several topics, including his inspiration for wanting to enter the political arena and if he feels any added pressure for being a person of color who serves as an elected official in state government. 

"I remember being asked that question that night I was elected, that 'how did it feel to to break that barrier?' And to be the first Black state senator from Lexington. And I said in response to that question that I understood the importance of breaking that barrier, that the history I was making. But what I want to be remembered for most is not being the first black state senator from Lexington, but for being a good state senator from Lexington," explained Thomas.
