KENTUCKY — Congress previously passed a public law requesting that the president at the time, Ronald Reagan, authorize a Women’s History Week beginning on March 7, 1982. The week was later stretched into a month starting in 1987 after Congress was successfully petitioned by the National Women’s History Project to do so.
Since 1995, each president has issued a proclamation declaring March to be recognized as Women’s History Month.
During this In Focus Kentucky segment, Carol Siler, executive director for the nonprofit Women Leading Kentucky, joins the program to share information that this is "not a membership organization – it is a network."
The organization was founded in 1993 with the mission to intentionally engage all women through partnerships and innovative programming to advance leadership excellence.
Women Leading Kentucky is a diverse, inclusive, statewide organization recognized for elevating women, and the core values the organization is committed to are:
L • Leadership
E • Ethical & Respectful Practices
