What is systemic racism? It’s about more than policing. It’s present in many areas like housing, voting and employment.

Gloria Browne-Marshall joined In Focus to talk about ending the deep-seated racism that exists throughout the criminal justice system.

As a constitutional law professor in a college that trains many who want to enter law enforcement, Browne-Marshall is already part of the reform process. She said the deal we saw in the prosecutors in the Derek Chauvin case is what has been missing when police officers are accused of brutality or worse, and, she said, now the example has been set for how police should be prosecuted in the future. But, she noted, this is a justice system that was born in slavery, and born in racial injustice, and changing it will take much more than one guilty verdict.
