KENTUCKY — Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999 to ensure the nation was given the chance to publicly show its appreciation for troops past and present.
Each week, Veteran's Club hosts peer-led, family-friendly programming for veterans and military families helping create strong bonds and providing a sense of purpose and belonging that military service once provided.
"On March 3rd this year, we acquired Veteran's Village for all the programming and management of that project and so we haven't ever officially had a grand opening. Veterans started living there in October, and we've had some change over, and so we're wanting to bring the community out and some of our state and local leaders to come out and see what this tiny home community is about," he said. "It's a beautiful community in Shelbyville, equipped with a beautiful renovated Community Center, and it's going to host a plethora of programs for veterans. Some education, support services. But also some leisure activities, an opportunity for veterans to connect and not just the veterans that live in the village, but veterans all over who want to come and just get connected. So, we're excited on May 29 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to be able to present to you Kentucky's first tiny home veteran community."
