KENTUCKY — Linda Gorton spent 20+ years in Lexington government before being elected as mayor in December 2018.

Gorton's previous offices included four years as vice mayor, and she holds the record for the longest-serving member of the Lexington-Fayette County Urban County Government.

In August 2021, Gorton announced that she wants another four-year term as mayor of Kentucky's second-largest city.

"A lot of people had been encouraging me, and since about March, people come up to me and asked me if I'm going to run again because they have basically given me really good feedback of my leadership through the pandemic and through the social issues, the justice issues," she said. "You know we can't forget we had a snow storm, an ice storm, a sleet storm...I think this job has been a good fit for me. And I still have the interest and and energy to keep pursuing some of the items that are still on my plate. And there's still a lot left to do so, if I'm given the honor of serving again, I'll be very excited about that. And Lexington is a great place, and it's a great place to serve in elected office, so I'm pretty excited about it."
