Queens Rep. Grace Meng joins In Focus to discuss the rise of anti-Asian hate crimes across the city and what she would like to see the mayor and the NYPD do about the issue.

As the first Asian American elected to Congress from New York, Meng has represented the 6th Congressional District since 2013, now serving her fifth term in the U. S. House of Representatives. Her district includes West, Central and Northeast Queens. B

orn in Elmhurst and raised in Bayside and Flushing, Meng attended Stuyvesant High School. She discusses her efforts to promote the teaching of Asian Pacific American history in city schools.

She also talks about President Joe Biden’s new advisory commission for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and her meeting with Biden and Adams last week to address surging gun violence in the city. Meng discusses her push to make Lunar New Year a federal holiday.
