John Oppermann, the Executive Director of Earth Day Initiative, joins “In Focus” to celebrate Earth Day. The annual event began in 1970 and takes place every spring on April 22.
Oppermann discusses how the climate crisis connects to the invasion of Ukraine due to the continued use of fossil fuels and the urgent warnings outlined in the 2022 U.N. climate report.
He shares his thoughts on the urgency of rising temperatures due to global warming and the year-round environmental awareness programs offered by Earth Day Initiative. The organization organizes events and promotes environmental awareness and solutions. It estimates about seven out of ten people want ambitious climate action.
Oppermann also previews some of what attendees can expect at Earth Day 2022 and shares simple actions that you can take that will have a big impact on our planet.
