LOUISVILLE, Ky. — There are many activities that you can put on your to-do list if you are traveling into Louisville for Derby week, including stopping by the Kentucky Derby Museum.
The Museum celebrates the tradition, history, hospitality and pride of the world-renowned event that is the Kentucky Derby. Each year, the Museum welcomes over 240,000 visitors from across the U.S. and around the world.
With a single general admission ticket, museum visitors can enjoy two floors of interactive exhibits, a 30-minute guided historic walking tour at Churchill Downs Racetrack, and also get a dose of adrenaline while watching the Museum’s signature 18-minute movie, “The Greatest Race” on a unique, 360°, 4K high-resolution screen.
"We have over 240,000 visitors every year and so many of them asked, how does the Kentucky Derby become the Kentucky Derby? This world-renowned horse race that people know and recognize around the globe? And so this exhibit really summarizes and answers that question. It goes through five main pillars. The history, you know, who is behind the Kentucky Derby? How did they get started? We go through the traditions you know, the garland of roses, the solid gold Derby trophy, the mint juleps, the fashion. How did those become iconic traditions of the Kentucky Derby? And the media spectacle? It's been a media sensation. How did that start and it's still going," explains Rachel Collier, Director of Communications, Kentucky Derby Museum.
