Louis Maldonado, the Chair of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade's Board of Directors, joins "In Focus" to celebrate the return of the parade after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. The annual parade honors the island’s culture, achievement and legacy.
Maldonado discusses the National Puerto Rican Day Parade's honorees and its 65th anniversary. This year's honorees include Fat Joe, Angi Martinez, Miguel Cardona, among others. Maldonado explained why this year's celebrations are dedicated to the municipality of Cidra and the Puerto Rican community of the greater Philadelphia area.
He also discusses the National Puerto Rican Day Parade's scholarship program to support Puerto Rican students going to college. As America’s largest cultural celebration, the parade unites approximately 8 million Puerto Ricans living across the 50 states.
