KENTUCKY — When taking office in 2019, Lt. Governor Jacqueline Coleman (D) also split duties serving for a short time as Secretary of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet, working with many in the Cabinet to address and fix several issues related to unemployment insurance claims and wages.

Coleman, along with Gov. Andy Beshear, co-led the state as we all navigated through the COVID-19 pandemic, deadly tornadoes along with snow and ice storms and record flooding.

"We ran really hard. I always said it was a marathon at a sprint pace for about two years. And we got elected. We were we were sworn in in December. And we hit the ground running. I had a baby in February, and the pandemic hit in March. And in that time frame, and in the months that would follow, it was it was surreal, because we had so many things, so many promises that we had made and so many ideas that we had to improve government in the lives of Kentuckians across the Commonwealth and the world stopped on a dime," explained Lt. Gov. Coleman.

Also during this In Focus Kentucky segment, Coleman weighs in on the state shattered the all-time records for investment and job creation in 2021, which includes 264 private-sector new-location and expansion projects committed to invest over $11.2 billion and create over 18,100 full-time jobs.

"As we are putting this pandemic in the rearview mirror, what we're looking ahead at is the brightest economic future that Kentucky probably has ever had, certainly in our lifetime, with the way that [Beshear] has built out this economic development product we've seen the last two years."
