KENTUCKY — A new poll found Americans who identify as LGTBQ more than doubled over the last decade.

According to Gallup, 3.5% percent of adults identified as LGBTQ in 2012. That number is now at 7.1%.

The data in the poll shows the rise can mostly be attributed to younger adults — born between 1997 and 2003.

About 21% of people in that age group reportedly identify as LGTBQ.

During this In Focus Kentucky segment, we remember six years since the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, which is the deadliest attack against LGBTQ+ people in U.S. history.

The shooting happened on “Latin Night” and most of the victims were Hispanics and members of the LGTBQ community.

While the country remembers those who lost their lives that day, survivors and the families of victims gathered recently to pay their respects, honoring the 49 victims killed in the 2016 attack.
