Vicki Schneps, activist and founder of "Life's WORC," discusses the 5,400 children that were stuck at Willowbrook State School on Staten Island, including her daughter Lara.

Schneps has advocated for countless other children and adults with disabilities, ensuring they live with dignity.

She explains when she learned about the tragedy unfolding at Willowbrook 50 years ago, and she talked about her late ex-husband's federal class-action lawsuit against the institution, too.

Back in 1971, Schneps and a team of families founded the "Working Organization for Retarded Children and Adults." Schneps discusses how the organization has evolved over the last half-century.

"Life's WORC" provides group homes for those living with disabilities.

Schenps also talks about the continued fight for New Yorkers with disabilities and the battle to prevent budget cuts for this vulnerable population.

Additionally, she has turned her activism into journalism by creating Schneps Media.
