KENTUCKY — State Auditor Mike Harmon (R) was first elected in Nov. 2015 as the 47th Auditor of Public Accounts for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

He was elected to a second term as Auditor in November 2019 and before that, he previously served in the Kentucky House of Representatives for 13 years representing the 54th District, which includes Boyle and Casey County, and previously Washington County.

During this In Focus Kentucky segment, Harmon explains some of the general duties of the Auditor’s office, which include overseeing over 600 audits annually.

“We make sure government is efficient, effective and ethical. So we do audit counties, we audit county courts, fiscal courts, sheriff’s and county clerks. But we also do every year what’s known as the statewide single out of Kentucky (S.S.W.A.K) which is looking at the state finances. Back in February we released Volume One of the SSWAK that looks at the financials, state’s financial statement as well as controls. Volume Two, we were released just in June, that looks at federal compliance. So we do a little bit of everything. Then we also do special exams,” said Auditor Harmon.
