Roughly a million students are preparing to return to the largest school district in the United States. Rep. Gregory Meeks joins “In Focus” to discuss the upcoming school year and President Joe Biden’s plan to relieve thousands of dollars of student loans for millions of Americans.
City Hall put together a formal plan to help migrant children transition to city schools called “Project Open Arms.” Meeks shares his thoughts on the move and Texas’ decision to send buses of asylum-seeking families to New York City. The plan will provide migrant children in city schools with academic, social-emotional and language-access support services.
Meeks also discusses the Chips and Science Act, a major win for STEM education. It allows increased investment in minority serving institutions.
