Julie Tighe, president of the New York League of Conservation Voters, joined “In Focus” to encourage voters to turn their ballot over and vote for proposition one.
The NYLCV is a statewide environmental organization fighting climate change through political action. They advocate for clean air and water, renewable energy and open space.
Tighe has been working on the New York Bond Act since the Cuomo administration. It would authorize a $4.2 billion environmental bond for natural restoration and clean energy projects. The Bond Act would also update water and sewer lines, replace lead pipes and maintain water treatments.
Tighe also discussed the controversial congestion pricing plan and if the city will reduce emissions and meet our climate goals. The mayor recently announced a $4 billion program to electrify city schools, with federal funding for 51 new all-electric city school buses.
Tighe shared her thoughts on the move, the city’s over-reliance on fossil fuels and the need to change to renewable energy.
