KENTUCKY — This week, we’re sharing how people and organizations are raising awareness about National Adoption Month, which is currently underway.

Sunrise Children's Services provides healing to hurting families and children through foster care, adoption, and community based services.

Dale Suttles is the President of Sunrise and the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is considered by many, as Kentucky’s leading nonprofit provider of care for children in crisis.

"We're soon going to come up on our 650th adoption. And so, you know, we are very passionate about that, that mission. We are a therapeutic program in nature, so children that have significant problems we work with them. Surround the foster parents with with support. We actually call it sometimes 'Be the ones, Surround the one,'" Suttles said.

Since 1869, this nonprofit ministry has continuously affiliated with Kentucky Baptists and today, Sunrise is a home for children who have been abused, neglected and many who have been removed from their home.

"When kids age out of the system, they're young adults. Where do they go, who do they go? Many times, there's no family to turn to. So we have to create this artificial support system to be there for these children. So, you know, we call it independent living, we call it venture on, meaning we're going to help you find your best life," Suttles added.
