Queens Councilmember Francisco Moya joined “In Focus” to celebrate the New York City Football Club’s professional soccer coming to Queens.

The plans have been decades in the making. Moya discussed the work that went into getting it all done and why he led the campaign for affordable housing in the redevelopment plan.

There will be 2,500 new affordable homes available to families making $40,000 a year or less. It’s the largest 100% affordable housing project in 10 years. Moya talked about what will happen to the existing shops in Willets Point and the impacts on the local economy.

The city believes the plans will spur $6.1 billion in economic activity over the next 30 years. He explained how they plan to create local jobs and invest in the children in the neighborhood.

Part of the plans include the creation of a 650-seat K-8 public school for the families who live in and around Willets Point. Moya discussed how the plans will help the surrounding neighborhoods, like Corona and Flushing.
