Dr. Joohi Jimenez-Shahed, a neurologist at Mount Sinai, discussed the hospital’s OCD, Tics and Tourette’s Services NYC program.

She talked about the services the program provides to people in New York City, including comprehensive evaluations and evidence-based treatment.

Dr. Jimenez-Shahed is also on the medical advisory board of the Tourette’s Association of America.

Mount Sinai is home to a Tourette Association of America Center of Excellence.

Dr. Jimenez-Shahed explained how the hospital earned that distinction and what it means. The distinction is based on the hospital’s commitment to education and advocacy, groundbreaking research and evidence-based care.

Disorders like Tourette’s, ADHD and OCD are often related.

Dr. Jimenez-Shahed explained how someone with a persistent tic disorder may struggle with another mental, behavioral or developmental disorder. Other related conditions include anxiety, behavioral concerns, depression and learning disorders. She also discusses the difference between vocal tics, motor tics and some settings where they’re more likely to arise.

Dr. Jimenez-Shahed talked about what the future looks like for those living with persistent tic disorders.
