Chief Advisor to the mayor Ingrid Lewis-Martin celebrated Women’s History Month and explained how the Adams administration is putting women in positions of power.

She said Mayor Eric Adams has made a point to have a diverse administration, appointing a team of black women deputy mayors.

Lewis-Martin explained how the administration supports women-owned businesses across the five boroughs as they emerge from the pandemic.

Adams appointed the city’s first chief business diversity officer to assist in the recovery.

She also discussed the mayor’s women’s health agenda and their focus on maternal mortality.

In New York City, the average maternal mortality rate among Black pregnant women is more than nine times the rate of white pregnant women. Lewis-Martin explained what needs to be done.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, she discussed how her Barbadian and Panamanian heritage shapes her career in City Hall.

Lewis-Martin has been a friend of the mayor’s for decades, working with him in some capacity for more than 17 years.
