Matthew Fraser, the city’s chief technology officer, says New York City is the safest big city in the nation, despite facing constant cyber threats, because of its vigilance, proactive defense measures and strong local, state and federal partnerships.

He celebrated the city’s first cyber academy class and explains how these graduates will bolster the city’s cyber capabilities and safeguard our critical infrastructure.

Fraser is the city’s first Black chief technology officer, coordinating technology-related projects and policy.

He talked about his first year in office, and how his Brooklyn roots prepared him for the role.

Fraser has more than 17 years of IT experience across the government and the private sector, including with the NYPD.

He discussed how his office is democratizing technology and encouraging our young people to get involved in tech.
