City Comptroller Brad Lander wrapped up Earth Week and discussed his Net Zero Implementation Plan, which ensures city investment portfolios reach net zero emissions by 2040.
Lander explained how he plans to get there and how the city’s pension systems can lead the country in confronting climate risk to our investments.
NYC public pension funds have already divested nearly $4 billion from fossil fuel reserve owners.
Part of the plan includes divesting from fossil fuels and investing in renewable energy.
Lander explained how the plan includes $50 billion of climate solution investments by 2035.
He also discussed what his office is doing to stop greenwashing and hold companies accountable.
