City Comptroller Brand Lander explained how climate change poses systemic risks to the planet and the global economy.

He discussed Mayor Eric Adams’ climate action plan and explained how it will help the city reach its climate goals.

Ahead of Earth Day, the comptroller added new features and data to the city’s climate dashboard.

Lander explained what the dashboard tracks and discusses the neighborhood maps of environmental justice areas with low income communities of color.

There was a drop in city emissions during the first year of the pandemic, but emissions from buildings, transportation and waste increased again in 2021.

Lander discussed what needs to be done to get us closer to our emission goals.

He also talked about Local Law 97 and explained how it will cut the city’s carbon emissions.

Under the new law, properties that exceed the city’s emissions limits will be liable to penalties.
