KENTUCKY — Candidates competing in the Democrat and Republican Party primaries for Kentucky Secretary of State appeared on “In Focus Kentucky” to discuss a wide range of topics and issues ranging from day one priorities if elected, purging voter rolls and plans to continue improving election security.

During this segment, Mario Anderson spoke with Democratic candidate Charles “Buddy” Wheatley of Covington in Kenton County. Wheatley previously served as a two-term state representative in Frankfort, before losing his re-election campaign by a close margin in Nov. 2022. He said he is running on a platform of boosting voter turnout by increasing poll locations, poll workers and access to voting.

Wheatley was the only person to file paperwork to run as a Democrat in the Secretary of State race, so he is the presumptive nominee for his party and will challenge the Republican primary winner during the General Election in Nov. 2023.
