Mayor Eric Adams announced a series of hip-hop block parties to celebrate the 50th anniversary.

Adams said the parties will celebrate community gatherings and the origin of hip-hop.

1520 Sedgwick Ave. in the Bronx is cited as the birthplace of hip-hop, with DJ Kool Herc as the father of the genre.

Adams discussed the Stop the Violence movement and how it’s still relevant amid gun violence in the city.
