This school year, teachers and students in Ohio will notice a slight change to the state’s third-grade reading guarantee.

Lawmakers in Ohio did away with the retention component.

In Focus host, Mike Kallmeyer, talks with State Sen. Andrew Brenner, R-Delaware, about what brought on the change. Kallmeyer is also joined by an Ohio State University education researcher, Jamie O’Leary, who was a part of a study that analyzed the impact that the program was having on students.

Finally, Franklin Monroe Elementary School Principal Megan Linder joined the conversation to walk through how the change will impact students and teachers.
