Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce executive director Winston Majette celebrates 50 years of Harlem Week by sharing how generations of families have been part of the events through the years.

Majette said Harlem Week began as Harlem Day in 1974 as a "one-time only" event that, through the years, blossomed into a week and then a month of celebrations.

Majette discussed diversity and how Harlem's rich culture and history has made it into what it is today. Harlem Week events start Aug. 1, and the NYC Summer Streets 50th anniversary celebration kicks off 7:00 a.m. on Aug. 3.
