Queens Councilmember Nantasha Williams discussed a passed a package of bills the Council passed last year, including the creation of a commission to study the impacts of slavery in the city.

Williams said learning the impact of government in history helps current lawmakers understand the pain points of its residents.

She also said rolling back DEI programs only hurts the city’s diverse communities and said many people are uninformed about what DEI was meant to do.

Williams also commented on Black History Month getting cancelled by the federal government and what it means for the Black community in the city.
