In this week's In Focus: SoCal, host Tanya McRae pays tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each year, on the third Monday of January, Americans celebrate MLK Day of Service and choose different ways to volunteer and get involved in their communities.

McRae sits down with Sen.-designate Alex Padilla to talk about the importance of volunteerism and the issues around California that are in need of more support and advocacy. L.A. County Board of Supervisors member Holly Mitchell shares her MLK Day tradition and talks about her time advocating for children and low-income families.

L.A. Works Executive Director Debbie Brutchey also joins this week's show to share the various virtual and in-person events the organization is hosting on MLK Day of Service. One of the events features a virtual March on Washington on Minecraft, to help engage and educate young people about the historic event of the civil rights movement.

McRae also introduces us to one L.A. woman who took initiative before the Christmas holiday to start delivering meals to health care workers at area hospitals.
