In Focus: SoCal continues to celebrate Black History Month this week, with a focus on diversity and what it means to be mixed race in America.

Host Tanya McRae shares experiences around her personal family history and mixed background, while also sitting down with Los Angeles City Councilman Bob Blumenfield, his wife Kafi, and two children to talk about their experience as a family.

McRae also sits down with actor, producer, and educator Fanshen Cox to discuss the history of racism and the mixed race experience in America.

Assemblyman Chris Holden joins the conversation to talk about AB 979, which requires publicly owned companies in California to have at least one member from an underrepresented community. Holden also talks about the Upward Mobility Act, which addresses barriers of upward mobility and inclusion for people of color working in California's civil services system.

McRae speaks with Virgil Roberts, co-founder of the African American Board Leadership Institute, about how the organization has been training and preparing Black professionals to serve in the boardroom.
