State Sen. Tim Carpenter (D-Milwaukee) represents the district that includes American Family Field.

Carpenter says he would very much like to see the Brewers remain in Milwaukee for a very long time, but that he has some concerns about the proposal to steer more public money to improvements at American Family Field.

The governor proposed $290 million for the ball park in his state budget.

The GOP majority in the legislature removed the item from the budget and is opting to address it separately with its own piece of legislation.

Carpenter said he wants to make sure taxpayers are protected in any deal. He noted the public in southeast Wisconsin already invested heavily into American Family Field (formerly Miller Park) through the five county sales tax that lawmakers ended in 2020.
