The first practical airplane originated in Ohio thanks to brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright.
Brady Kress, the president and CEO of the organization Dayton History, explained the journey the Wright brothers embarked on throughout the creation of the aircraft.
“This one really was, as they describe, the plane that taught the world to fly,” Kress said.
He described four things about Wright Flyer III that made it the birth of modern aviation including: its ability to be self-propelled, pilot-carrying, heavier than air, and controllable. The original 1905 Wright Flyer III is located inside Carillon Park in Dayton, Ohio.
