This week on In Focus, we take a look into a day in the life of the mayor of New York’s capital city. Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan joins JoDee Kenney to discuss a number of topics, including public safety. Mayor Sheehan chats Albany's response to illegal dirt bikes and ATVs, the city's new emergency dispatch center, vehicle theft, the Crime Analysis Center and more.

"We are diligent in our efforts to ensure that our people track these bikes and that when we find and we take your bike, it is $3,000 to get it back, which for most people means that they have their bike or their ATV confiscated, so we're really serious about it and we want to ensure that we're doing all we can to protect our residents and visitors to the city," she said.

"The dispatch center has been a force multiplier for us," Chief Eric Hawkins, Albany Police Department, said of the new dispatch center. "The proximity of police and fire dispatchers is huge so they can share information. We also have some technology that is necessary to be efficient with our response. We are hoping that this also helps us with recruitment and retention. This is a place we are hoping dispatchers will want to come and work for us and those here will want to stay. We saw the opportunity to evolve, and this is a priority for us."
