Temperatures dipped to near-record lows in New York City on the morning of Thanksgiving Day as a cold air mass moved through the region.
Temperatures were in the teens and low 20s in many areas of New York City at 8 a.m., with wind chills as low as the single digits.
The National Weather Service says the cold air originated in Siberia, rode the jet stream and reached New York City.
The forecast only calls for highs in the mid-20s for the day, which is more than 20 degrees below the average high for November 22. A low of 17 degrees is forecasted for Thursday night.
A high of 33 is in the forecast for Friday, and temperatures are expected to rise back into the 50s this weekend - though rain may be in the firecast for Saturday.
