The Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro cares for hundreds of injured animals each year. However, the center is at risk of closing and needs to raise $250,000 dollars by June to stay open for another year.

Renee Eng sat down with Lori Olsen, Animal Care Manager at the center, who explains what they do to keep the animals independent so they can be returned to the wild.

Among the ailments they see are malnutrition, neurological issues and bites from predators like sharks. Renee Eng also spoke with Manhattan Beach high school student Isabella Salazar. The 18-year-old has a special connection to the center and explains why she’s doing everything she can to help keep the doors open.
